Teacher Bio
I have been a teacher in the classroom since 2003. Upon completing my Masters of Education and credential from Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education, I became a long-term substitute in Los Angeles Unified teaching 6th grade math and science at a middle school. Recognizing that the middle school setting was not for me, I took a full-time 4th grade position with Palm Springs Unified. I truly enjoyed the staff, yet missed my family who remained in Orange County. So, after the close of the school year, I took another classroom position in Irvine Unified and have been here ever since.
Learning is a lifelong journey. I hold this philosophy near and dear. After teaching several years, I decided to return to graduate school again. This time to pursue my Reading Specialist Credential. I am GATE certified and have received training in Jr. Great Books, Thinking Maps, CGI (Cognitively Guided Instruction), and Hands-on Equations to name a few. I have been a part of the district's team of ELA mentors designing reading and writing units, as well as presenting and providing guidance in language arts. Additionally, I am Canyon View's upper grade Intervention Lead Teacher and the 4th grade team representative on the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) team. To help keep all of this in balance as much as possible while teaching, my students and I practice mindfulness throughout our day together. Attending professional conferences to learn new ideas and grow professionally are also a part of my journey.
