Class Procedures and STAR Behavior
Morning Procedure
Students are to be in two quiet lines outside the classroom door before 8:10. Students are to enter the room in an appropriate manner (indoor voices and walking). At this time, students are to prepare necessary materials for the day, have the previous day’s homework on their desk, and begin their morning activity independently. I will collect any forms at a later time.
Homework
Homework is assigned Monday thru Thursday night. However, it is possible that unfinished class work will need to be completed over the weekend. Occasional projects and studying for tests may also require weekend time. Homework should take approximately 45 minutes each night, including independent reading and studying for tests. Class time is allocated daily to prepare backpack and binder with homework. It’s the student’s responsibility to prepare materials.
Homework should be completed only by the student. It should be their best work. Incomplete or missing homework will receive a Missing/Late Homework mark, which will be recorded. The assignment(s) will be worked on during recess and/or lunch. Although rare, if a family emergency occurs and the homework could not be done, a parent note/email is required in order to receive a time extension.
The number of missing/late/incomplete homework and/or assignments does impact the student's Work Effort grade on his or her report card.

Grading
Students use pen to correct their own work with the exception of tests.

Spelling tests and reading quizzes will be given weekly throughout the year unless noted. Math and science tests take place at the end of each chapter. While all efforts are made to avoid scheduling tests on Monday or the day after a holiday, it is not always possible. Thank you for understanding.
If a student receives 69% or below on a math or science test (does not apply to quizzes – reading, grammar, or spelling), he/she may improve the test grade to a passing grade of 70% by doing the following:

- Student analyzes error and writes a sentence describing the mistake he/she made on a separate sheet of paper.
- The student corrects the missed problems/questions on a separate sheet of paper and staples it to the original test. Do NOT erase the original answer.
- All of the problems/questions redone are 100% correct.
- The student takes an alternative version of the original test and earns a score of 70% at teacher’s discretion.
